Adult learners are welcome to participate in micro-credential programmes starting in the spring semester to acquire an additional specialisation or competence in a narrow field. Applications can be submitted until 26 January.
In the spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, the University of Tartu offers five English-taught micro-credential programmes: “Public Sector Entrepreneurship and Innovation Master Class”, “Teamwork and Leadership”, “Global Governance in a Changing World”, “Global Politics and Foreign Influence”, and “Cloud-native application design and DevOps”. The latter mentioned will also continue in the autumn semester of the next academic year. In total, the university offers 27 micro-credential programmes in the fields of entrepreneurship, economics, marketing, management, information technology, education, culture, psychology, sustainable development, law and social sciences.
According to Aune Valk, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Tartu, micro-credential programmes are here to stay – the changing labour market and new ways of working require people to continuously develop their knowledge and skills, which is now more flexible and faster thanks to the micro-credential programmes. “This is the fourth year we have been providing micro-credential programmes, and our experience so far shows that adult learners welcome this opportunity to learn with less workload that suits people who work. Those who complete the programme can continue studies in a degree curriculum and earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Based on the feedback survey, nearly half of the respondents intend to use this opportunity,” Valk added.
A micro-credential programme is a longer, comprehensive continuing education programme designed based on degree-study courses and considering the needs of the labour market and society. Its volume is 12–30 ECTS, and the typical duration of study is a semester or two. Participants in a micro-credential programme usually study alongside degree-seeking students in block mode or an online format suitable for the working person. Learners with at least upper secondary education are invited to apply, but many programmes have additional admission requirements.
More detailed information about the content, application deadlines and requirements are available in the description of each programme on the micro-credential programmes website.
